You have a wonderful, informative website and I love all the ebooks that I bought
March 09, 2013
The above comment was from a happy customer, a mother of 9 in Joplin, Missouri.
Another recent comment is from Zoey, another homeschooling mom, in Florida, who wrote,
“I am a mom of soon to be 8 (any day now) and I basically eat all kinds of Christian how-to type books and media. I love to learn and improve. My childhood and young womanhood looks nothing like the one I want my girls to have, and I still continue to struggle with what other, better equipped moms, usually do without any heistatiom or thought. I am telling you this, because even with my countless hours of study, I still find so many nuggets of wisdom and jewels in the forms of tips and ideas, in your works. Your approach is hands on, cost effective, throughly thought-out, easily exicuted, and COMPLETELY UNIQUE!”
She added, “I have the Homeschool How To’s CD set—- wonderful wonderful!! ! I have been so blessed listening to it, and even had the privilege to listen to you at the FPEA Homeschool Conference on 2 separate occasions. You always amaze me. Thank you for sharing your giftings in such a magnanimous way. Your upbeat, encouraging tone, makes even the most overwhelmed momma (like me!) think, `Yes, I can do this!’.”
This customer raves about the how-to booklets by Renee

These books are wonderful. I have five grandchildren (one of them is still on the way), and one 14 year old son. The Preschool Pizzazz is better than I could have ever imagined!!!! I want to read every one of them all at the same time. I know you can’t know everyone personally, but through these we get to know you and appreciate you very much.

I LOVE your course. I was homeschooling my boys and they flew through the course, learning to type well. It is the BEST typing course I’ve ever seen.

“It is lovely. The whole family enjoys it. I have it in my van. It just runs constantly, on all of my trips, repeating over and over. Very soothing.”

Why I Appreciate Homeschool How-To’s
August 22, 2009
Your materials have helped me to find a simple way to actualize what I’ve always wanted to do with homeschooling. Finding a way to simplify the way we achieve our overall goals has saved me from quitting homeschooling!

ACE as an Answer to Burnout
May 24, 2009
I purchased your booklet on “Burnout” at the recent convention and easily recognized myself in your descriptions. It was as though you had written it specifically to me. My only regret was that i didn’t get to read it until this morning. I wish I had seen the information about ACE so that I could have visited their booth at the convention. At first, as I was reading about it, I felt resistance. I thought that homeschooling meant actively teaching each part of each lesson to my children and being a part of the entire process. But I can see that this year (this is our first year of homeschooling our 8 and 10 year olds) has produced chaos, frustration, a totally messy home and a burnt out Mom.
I had been using [a unit study curriculum] along with [a literature based curriculum] and [a certain math program]. I have been feeling like a total failure, beating myself up for not being creative enough to teach it well. The last few months of Homeschooling has been unschooling. In desperation and in not wanting to send them back to school, I enrolled them in … a costly math and language arts program that has me running quite a distance twice a week. But I rationalized that at least they’re getting “something”. My guilt and sense of failure have been overwhelming.
I had to admit that you were right. I had to consider that letting the kids do the basic core work on their own would solve a multitude of problems. I had to consider that I don’t have to feel guilty about letting them work independently. On the other hand, guilt does enter in if I end up “unschooling”. And I really don’t want to send them back to school. They were attending a Christian School, but we had problems. My 10 year old daughter was accelerated and very bored (and a little too social and worldly) and our 8 year old son was slipping between the cracks. They used [a mainstream Christian curriculum], which was boring to one of them and too challenging for the other. In fact, in the case of my son, I spent this whole year just doing damage control, trying to convince him that he wasn’t “dumb” and that he really could do some schoolwork without getting frustrated and tense and having an emotional meltdown. I think if nothing else, we have at least had some success in this area. But my daughter did not get anything out of this last year. I was unable to teach to her level because my son was so far behind and needed so much support. I couldn’t even do Bible or character work very well, because they could see that my attitude and my demeanor was a contradiction to what I was trying to teach them! My own witness was destroyed.
I also loved what you said at the seminar, although I didn’t understand at that moment. You said that the day should look like this: active/passive; active/passive; active/passive. I didn’t understand how that could work with the unit study curriculum that we’ve been trying to use. But I certainly see how it could work with ACE. And the unit studies that I thought would be so fun, still can be! But as extracurricular studies and not core studies. That would actually bring the fun back into them!

The Power of a Focused Mother” is a special resource
April 10, 2009
“The Power of a Focused Mother” is one of the best things I have ever read about mothering and homeschooling! (and I read a lot!) I am going to tell everyone I know about it, it is just too special of a resource to ignore. It spoke very strongly to my heart ...in a very gentle, yet powerful way.

The Simple Story of Israel is a great read!
December 05, 2008
I am delighted with Renee’s witty style! She has a way of taking what can be boring and mundane and making it not only relevant, but enjoyable to read. Your book is the perfect History lesson to give someone the proper perspective on the Covenant Land. Thanks for keeping the flood-gates of truth flowing… and making it available financially.

How the Zoom Type typing tutor helped an adult land a new job after just a week of practice
September 28, 2008
The typing program came on time and I used it diligently to finish learning the keyboard. I passed the typing test and was offered the job!
Dede Giesa in Issaquah, Washington
This customer ordered Zoom-Type by phone because she had to take a typing test to get a new job, and only had ten days to prepare for it. We mailed her the course by Priority Mail, and after less than a week of practice she passed the test.
I love how you present the material
August 31, 2008
I love how you present the material. It is straightforward and to the point. It is something we are able to read quickly (without reading a whole book), enabling us to get back to the tasks at hand. I feel convinced and encouraged even more to be the Godly wife and mother that God has called me to be.
Mrs. Rodriguez in Bloomfield, New Mexico
You convinced me to start homeschooling
August 29, 2008
I attended the convention simply to listen to reasons why I might home school. I thought “ok, convince me!” If you can think of an argument that you’ve heard against home schooling, I can assure you I’ve voiced it. I’ve never had any use for the concept, and for selfish reasons (I’ve discovered). My husband has been praying for two years that I’d receive conviction in this matter. He did not want to demand I do it, but if he did, of course I would have with no question. He preferred to let God do the work. I just want you to be encouraged by the fact that your seminars had the most profound impact on my attitude about home schooling, and my decision to do it. By the time I left the conference, I was almost ready! And now we have completed our second week of homeschooling ever. It has gone very well. The children have adjusted well, and they really love to have Mommy as their teacher. Thank you for doing what you do. Praise God.

Comments on homeschool workshops by Renee
July 10, 2008
I’d have to write a book on all the wonderful words of wisdom Renee gives. You feel full (satisfied) with all the nuggets of info she gives, and always so Christ-centered in her speaking.
I always feel de-stressed when I go hear her workshops.
Each year Renee is one of my favorite speakers! I hear things that I need to be reminded of. Very encouraging—and fun too!
I enjoy Renee’s talks very much! Her transparency is admirable.

The Power of a Focused Mother is a powerhouse!
May 03, 2008
I continue to be transformed by your words of wisdom…clearly from Christ! The most recent powerhouse being The Power of a Focused Mother. I continue my struggle against the strong pull to serve the Lord outside my home….yes, equally pulled to toss the TV (which we just did), read/cuddle/play with kids, make nice meals, be as joyful as I can, and be fervent about my vocation as a wife and mother (which I have spent many, many, many years avoiding and surviving instead of thriving. I have always gleaned from your words.
Mrs. S. in Littleton, Colorado
A mom in Texas who heard Renee speak on this topic blogged about it and wrote:
I went to the Homeschool Book Fair. ... Can you believe it, The Power of a Focused Mother. Wow just what I needed. I was sure somehow the speaker, Renee Ellison, would show me what was going on. Little did I know God wanted me there and would end up showing me what was going wrong. She opened with where is your focus, what is your perspective, what is your child’s perspective and then what hit me hard, would your child want you for a mom? I was sitting in a room full of people and God grabbed me and showed me it wasn’t all the external stuff that mattered, what I was feeling was my fault. I had lost my focus. I was the problem. I sat and listened, cried, prayed and allowed God to use the speaker to show me what was wrong and how to get back on track.

Our whole family has learned about No Monkey Business
April 01, 2008
Mrs. Ellison, here is a “funny” from last November. I thought I should forward it to the source of No Monkey Business. My kids have listened to your CD on “No Monkey Business” about once a year since I bought it! Evidently, it has made an impression on them! Today in the van, the kids were telling me about a kid in their AWANA program who is misbehaved and disruptive. Sarah (5) said, “So-and-so does not obey.” Lily (Sarah’s twin) added, “His parents probably don’t spank him.” Then Jack (7) joins in with, “He doesn’t follow the ‘No Monkey Business’ rule.” I asked if they had such a rule at AWANA called “No Monkey Business.” They said, “No! It’s that CD we listened to!”
Even the children relish in your (and now my!) style of discipline!

Uncluttering my house, thanks to you!
January 29, 2008
I spoke with you concerning my cluttered house and asked advice on how to handle the clutter in my house caused by other people giving me things that I no longer wanted or never did want. I followed your advice and offered it back to them… you were right they did not want it either. This released me with them to get rid of a lot of stuff. No more do I hear…“Where did you put “x” that I gave you?” You have helped me to gain control back of my house. I was in tears talking to you that day, but I must say I am forever grateful for the short time we had together.
Since meeting you I have also tried to simplify my life and stuff…so far I have done good. Yet I have a ways to go, I have not arrived as of yet. My husband’s work office/ spare bedroom is still in great need of help as it also serves as a shed (that we do not have) for storage of things I know not were to put. And there are times I will go a week with a spotless house, but watch out the next week that is not so. So I am still trying to arrive.
Thank you for everything.

Comment about Renee speaking
January 24, 2008
I want to share with you that Renee is my FAVORITE speaker at the Arlington TX Homeschool Book Fair. She has blessed me with many of her “helps books”. She just has this sweet sweet Spirit about her like she really knows who she is in Christ so I try never to miss her talks. Just wanted to encourage her in case she needed any encouragement today. Your article was an encouragement
I found your article `The Biblical Headcovering: Scarf of Hidden Power’ on the internet while searching for material to help me in my study, and it has been a blessing to me. I am a young, recently-married lady and I have a deep desire to follow God all the way. I realize my great weakness, and I want to do nothing to hinder God’s working in my life. That is why I have decided to wear the headcovering. Your article was an encouragement and help in this decision. Also I appreciate very much the explanation of God’s principle of covering down through the ages. This was beautifully presented.

How Renee helped our homeschool
December 06, 2007
Want to know how Renee helped our home school? 5 years ago in Oklahoma City my wife Jennifer was walking through the booths at the homeschool convention, bought a few of her booklets and she told Jennifer about ACE as a great program for learning to read, then being somewhat self-paced after that. It has been such a wonderful blessing to us as a family we just wanted to thank her for her direction in that regard. Jennifer has purchased several of Renee’s booklets as well and just wanted her to know what a positive impact she has had on our homeschool experience. Thanks!

You’re a GREAT speaker
December 03, 2007
I have many of your booklets. I love the fact that they have just enough information in them and get to the point in an interesting way. I also have your album of CDs and have enjoyed listening to them as I drive. But my favorite times are attending your workshops. Mrs. Ellison, you have really found your secondary calling—you’re a GREAT speaker. You have a perfect sense of humor and timing!

Well-written about headcovering
The other night I prayed fervently about the headcovering and asked many questions. The very next day God brought me to your article on the Web. My questions were answered through your article. There is much wisdom in your booklets
November 04, 2007
There is much wisdom in your booklets, simply laid out for hectic parents and homeschoolers who don’t want another part time job reading through excess verbiage in hope of finding treasure. It’s right there in your writing for a quick read and quick application. Zoom-Type is just superb in simplicity, effectiveness and ease of use for the “kidlins”. You are offering a great service to moms and dads who need easy to implement helps.

Encouraged by Feminine Dress
November 01, 2007
I have a friend who was convicted to wear feminine clothing a couple of years ago. I gave her my copy of Feminine Dress to encourage her. She passed it along to her sister. One night she had left for a small group meeting and went back home to change when she realized that she was in pants.

You give the nuggets to us busy moms
October 31, 2007
I appreciate you digesting so many topics to give the nuggets to us busy moms. We have ten children and our oldest is 20 and our youngest is 3 now. Time to read new materials is limited at this season of my life. We will definitely pass on your catalog to young homeschoolers, so they do not have to buy all the books like our generation did. I greatly appreciated your down to earth style and suggestions
October 18, 2007
I recently heard you speak at our support group meeting. I greatly appreciated your down to earth style and suggestions. We have begun to implement some of them as of this week with tremendous results. ... What I want to thank you most of all for was your encouragement that discipline is not done in anger, but is training. When I saw the situation as training not a situation of just requiring the child to do something it was totally different for me.

Your writing is concise and convincing
I thought your ideas concise and convincing. Your support of experiential truths with the Word substantiates the experiences. I really liked the ‘woman to woman’ feel of the text. So many books are written by men ... there is so much more through a woman’s experience and her knowledge of her “fallen” state that comes through in the “light-hearted” kind of approach you took. ...it is our testimony that allows us to “sharpen” each other. Technical stuff is great, but personal touch brings teaching home to the heart.

Excellent book on the headcovering
August 08, 2007
Thank you too for your excellent book on the Headcovering; there is so little extant teaching available on this neglected and deeply unfashionable subject, by virtue of its being assumed a straightforward issue in times past, and now being considered a culturally and symbolically unacceptable issue in much of the church, and which hermeneutics must at all costs be made to negate and deny. Your work on this subject is by far one of the most comprehensive and well-researched available; it also has the distinction of being written by one who practices it, and I am sure will be a great practical encouragement to many women who are thinking of covering.

Biblical doctrine workbook was useful at summer camp!
August 08, 2007
After learning the 10 Commandments in less than 5 minutes with your pictures, I taught them to the rest of the staff. Soon, nearly every kid at camp knew them, and 80%-90% of the kids from all the camps after that learned them as well.

Zoom-Type is working for my girl who is dyslexic and dysgraphic
June 25, 2007
I thoroughly enjoyed your presence at the conference. I was so intrigued by your typing program that I took a leap of faith and finally ordered it. In the beginning, I thought it was just “too good to be true.” My daughter begins her third day and is thoroughly enjoying it! She is impressed that she has actually memorized some of the keyboard. Last night she said, “Can I type in Word to see if this really works?” The blessing in it for us is that she is beginning 4th grade and is dyslexic and dysgraphic. She is very bright, but writing is such a hindrance. Everyone suggests typing for her, but if you can’t type well, it really can be just as slow and frustrating. Thank you so much for your support. I’m so thrilled with the typing program, now I’m saving for the piano course—for me!

Thank you for your seminar - Teaching the Resistant Child. I brought my “resistant child” with me; we discovered I am square and she is squiggle! Your classes at the recent conference had so much wisdom presented in them; I wish you would make your own tapes on your subjects. I wasn’t able to make it to “Teaching the Resistant Student”, but I bought your tape (along with 11 others). As we set out for our 2 hour journey home the other two ladies (having been to at least 1, if not more, of your classes) insisted on hearing it FIRST. I love the simplicity of your booklets/pamphlets.

Your “burnout” lecture was the best

I attended a homeschool convention for the very first time this past weekend. My son is almost 6 and we just made the decision to homeschool in the fall. Your “burnout” lecture was the very last one that I went to, and I thought that it was THE BEST! You are truly an inspiration and so full of wonderful information. I hope that I can keep your words in my head (so when I talk to myself it will be positive) so that I can always provide a loving and peaceful environment for my boys. I can’t wait to order some of your materials!

Grandparents are no longer skeptical of homeschooling
May 01, 2007
Dear Renee, Thank you for the impact you have had on my parents, Dr. and Mrs. D* H*, last year at the conference. They came at our request and were “politely” skeptical of home-schooling. After attending your seminar on “Why Home-Schooling?” they were intrigues and followed you around, attending your remaining sessions. Mom has now bought your tapes and has shared them with other “skeptical” grandparents in her town. My father was a professor of Engineering at Texas A&M for 30 years and really enjoyed your approach and truly felt youir teaching style was brilliant and well thought-out. They have both talked to my brother’s wife and loaned them your tapes and now they are home-schooling also. You have impacted our family probably for generations to come.

Excellent article on resolving marital conflicts
April 30, 2007
I just finished reading your article titled, How to Resolve Marital Conflicts Happily, in my most recent issue of Crowned With Silver. The article was excellent. It was most informative and inspiring. I have literally read hundreds of books and articles on marital conflicts and yours surpasses all I have read, by far.

Dear Renee and Todd, Thank you for all the time, effort and energy you spent with me. I felt so refreshed the next day and was anxious to try out your ideas with my children. They love the Character Trait Coloring Book and tapes. In no time, they were singing up a storm!
